So here it is, our baptism of fire. I've finally found the report from our first investigation at the Ancient Ram Inn. This report was written by Dan Griffiths, which is why it differs to the other reports, but i've added some comments throughout ((highlighted in brackets with SW at the end)).
Everyone arrived at the Inn feeling quite relaxed and calm about the night ahead. We waited for the final two people, Piper and Sam, to arrive and our team was set to go.
Vicki, having experienced pains in her head earlier in the evening was now feeling fine.
After a long discussion with John Humphries, the owner of the building, it was time to begin the investigation. I explained all the rules and tried to settle some nerves, before setting off on our first group vigil.
Group Vigil 1 - The Bar Area
Apart from a few knocks and bangs that seemed to come from upstairs, nothing else was reported in the room at the time.
Group Vigil 2 - The Mayflower Barn
No activity to report.
Group Vigil 3 - The Bishops Room
After spending a bit of time in this room, it seemed like nothing was going to happen.
Then Piper commented that her legs were going cold. With her permission, we all placed our hand on her legs and they were slightly cold.
I also felt someone flick the back of my leg.
Group Vigil 4 - The Weavers Attic
As we were about to go to the attic area, Scott suddenly felt ill and a little dizzy.
While the others went to the attic to conduct the vigil I took Scott outside to make sure he was alright.
Unfortunatly, nothing was reported in the attic.
((I have to point out that I was also feeling ill for a couple of days after the investigation so this must have been it 'hitting me' as it were.SW))
Seance - The Witches Room
As soon as Scott felt better, I felt it was time to start the first seance. All of us had low expectations, and didn't feel anything was going to happen.
We had 5 of us taking part, while other members viewed from the back of the room.
For about 10 minutes nothing happened. We all then started to get a cold sensation across our hands, and the room was getting considerably colder.
((I couldn't detect if it was a draught or not.SW)) Sam felt as though someone had just stroked her palm. I then felt a tingling sensation on my left hand, alot stronger than pins and needles.
I then proceeded to get extremely emotional and could not stop crying. A few of the group thought it was best if I leave, but I was determined to carry on.
I really could not explain my outburst. Shortly afterwards Carolyn's shoulder was stroked/tugged at. Sadly everyone panicked and fled the room and the building.
I was still crying outside as Scott tried to console me. I was also sick.
Experiment Set Ups
We then set up several experiments using flour over a trigger object.
Candlestick - Witches Room
Bible - Bishops Room
Key - Weavers Attic
Split Vigils
We spilt into small groups to cover most of the building.
Scott - Bar
Dan, Sam and Piper - Bishops Room
Lewis, Vicki and Carolyn - Witches Room
Although nothing much happened in these locations, we did hear what sounded like someone opening the Bishops Room door.
I have to confirm that nobody was outside of the door. Even more bizarrely, Lewis radioed us and said that he thought someone was on the landing next to our room, at the exact same time we heard the noises.
Ouija Board - Bishops Room
The others felt uncomfortable taking part in this so waited outside the building. Myself and Lewis set up the board in the room and set up our protection.
After we felt calm and relaxed we began. Almost immediately the glass seemed to move to either the letter S or the number 4.
The room did start to go cold and we both saw a black flash in the glass. Sadly Lewis began to react quite badly and felt as if he was going to collapse.
For his own safety, I helped him downstairs where he wished to stay with Scott in the Bar.
Seance 2 - The Witches Room
We decided to go back to the Witches Room and try again, before that we noticed something unusual. The experiment with the flour in this room had altered slightly.
We saw that there was a faint trail of flour on the carpet. Some of us agreed that it was too perfect for a breeze to blow in onto the floor.
((However, as I didn't set these experiments up myself, and 3 different people did, there was no control over this. The trail could have been caused by flour dropping on floor after getting it from the bag. Or if someone had wiped their hands together after placing the flour.SW))
Lewis suggested we reverse the pentagram shape we had in our original seance and it did seem to have some kind of effect on the feelings of everyone in the group.
We tried glass movement during this seance, and the glass moved a little when the number 4 was spoken.
Final Group Vigil - The Bar Area
Scott spent alot of time down there and reported small activity, so we decided to spend the rest of the night down there to see if we could get some kind off communication going.
I heard the sound of a girl/woman sighing and it seemed that the room was getting extremely cold, colder then previously felt. Myself and Sam heard a horrific scratching from the open grave.
Most of the group wanted to leave the building so that left myself and Scott to do some table tipping. According to Scott, I started to sound strange, like I had a gravely voice, however I must point out that I had a sore throat for a while.
Conclusion
None of our trigger objects moved, but the bizarre sensations we all felt were enough to make the night very interesting. There are mixed feelings about the building, and feel it would be good to investigate with a bigger group.
Verdict : Haunted but requires further investigation.
Dan Griffiths.
